GBC

The purpose of the Genre Breakout Challenge (GBC) is an exploration of eight major genres of fiction. An understanding of these genres makes for better informed librarians dealing in reference and reader’s advisory work.

The source for the books used in the GBC is the annual Reading List which is selected by an award committee of the American Library Association’s Reference and User Services Association’s Collection Development Section. The list is decided upon and announced at the American Library Association’s Midwinter Meetings, generally held in January.
